Karabakh conflict to be settled based on Madrid Principles: George Kent
The United States supports the efforts of the Minsk Group addressed toward settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, George Kent, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, told the reporters on Tuesday in Yerevan.
He said recently the meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan took place and stressed that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs assist the establishment of contacts between the parties.
“The USA, Russia and France are OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries and together with Azerbaijan and Armenia are OSCE member states. All our countries accept the OSCE principles which are known as “Madrid Principles”. They include right to self-determination, territorial integrity and non-usage of force. Each country may have its position over the issue but the conflict may be settled only based on these principles,” Kent stated.
