Republican faction is against amendments in the Electoral Code, faction MP, vice speaker of the parliament Arpine Hovhannisyan told the reporters today.
“Our position is based on few reasons, one of them is the hastiness with which these amendments have been presented. There are no conclusions of the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR over it,” she said.
Referring to the statement of the Chairman of the Venice Commission, Hovhannisyan said that he gave assessment over the nature of changes.
“There are essential changes and non-essential. Over the essential, the Commission’s position remains the same: they should be implemented in the period of time which will allow the political forces get prepared for elections. The one year period is always being mentioned,” she said, adding that she absolutely did not expect for the Venice Commission to change the approach toward elections worked out for 47 member-states for a country, person or any political force, which is normal.
