Armenia’s President to apply to Constitutional Court to decide constitutionality of notorious law
Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian’s office has released a statement over the notorious bill adopted at the October 2 extraordinary sitting of the Armenian National Assembly on making changes in the NA Regulation.
“From the very first day of presidency, Armen Sarkissian has adopted new culture according to which, each action must be addressed to the implementation of certain goal and be based on the rule of law,” the statement says.
The statement also says that all the laws must correspond to Constitution and serve their purpose addressed to the regulation of concrete issues.
The bill on making changes in the NA Regulation adopted on October 2, 2018 had raised a wide resonance and surged different comments and discussions.
“A big mass of people disagreed with the law. Staying committed to his approach, President Sarkissian instructed his staff to carry out in-depth study of the international experience as well as prepare their grounding of the presented law,” the statement says, adding that the studies showed certain issues regarding constitutionality of the law.
Considering all the circumstances and being aimed at ensuring Constitutional rule, President Sarkissian made a decision to apply to the Constitutional Court to decide the constitutionality of the presented law.
