Yelk faction to nominate Nikol Pashinyan’s candidacy in post of PM
Yelk faction has made a decision to nominate Nikol Pashinyan’s candidacy in the post of the Prime Minister, faction’s secretary Gevorg Gorgisyan told Aysor.am.
“After the consultations with attorneys we decided to better nominate a candidate for voting process to take place,” Gorgisyan said.
Currently necessary documents are being prepared for the nomination.
The special session of the NA will be convened on October 24 for the election of the country’s prime minister.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resigned on October 16 to create legal basis for dissolving parliament and conducting snap parliamentary elections.
Under the Constitution of Armenia, the parliamentary factions are entitled to nominate prime ministerial candidates within seven days after the incumbent tenders his resignation or the post remains vacant otherwise.
In case of a failure to elect a chief of cabinet, the National Assembly conducts a new voting allowing only the candidate enjoying no less than a third of the parliament’s support to vie for the top government office. If no candidate is elected with a general majority of votes, the National Assembly is dissolved.
Preterm parliamentary elections are conducted within no less than 30 and no more than 45 days after the passage of corresponding bill.
