Nikol Pashinyan does not consider his election today possible
Armenia’s acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is in the NA.
“There has never been a tradition for the PM to contact with reporters so frequently, please, do not make me answer your questions every day,” Pashinyan said.
Asked whether he considers his election today possible, the PM said - no.
As to the possibility of people gathering and blockading the NA building for the lawmakers not to vote for him, the acting PM said the NA must work in a way not to force people blockade the building.
Under the Constitution of Armenia, the parliamentary factions are entitled to nominate prime ministerial candidates within seven days after the incumbent tenders his resignation or the post remains vacant otherwise.
In case of a failure to elect a chief of cabinet, the National Assembly conducts a new voting allowing only the candidate enjoying no less than a third of the parliament’s support to vie for the top government office. If no candidate is elected with a general majority of votes, the National Assembly is dissolved.
Preterm parliamentary elections are conducted within no less than 30 and no more than 45 days after the passage of corresponding bill.
