American arms better than Russia’s: Bolton on possible arms sell to Armenia and Azerbaijan
The United States does not have a final decision over annulling Section 907 of the United States Freedom Support Act which bans any kind of direct United States aid to the Azerbaijani government.
“As of the moment no such decision has been made, but I cannot predict what decision will be made on increase of arms sells [to Armenia and Azerbaijan],” Assistant to the U.S. President for National Security Affairs (NSA) John Bolton said at a press conference in Yerevan.
He stressed that Armenia acquires the majority of arms from Russia like Azerbaijan.
“This circumstance, certainly, does not promote the conflict settlement but gives Russia a big influence lever on the parties which does not result in peace,” Bolton said.
“We are Americans and believe that competition is a driving force for improvement. Our arms and ammunition are better than Russia’s. I think we should take it into consideration and view the issue in the framework of our laws,” he said.
