John Bolton offers Nikol Pashinyan to buy American weaponry instead of Russian
Assistant to U.S. President for National Security Affairs (NSA) John Bolton offered Armenia to buy American weaponry instead of Russian.
“I think there are many alternatives, including in the sphere of arms sells, We have restrictions regarding sell of weapons to Armenia and Azerbaijan. But there are exceptions,” Bolton said in an interview to RFE/RL.
“As I have told the Prime Minister if the issue is to choose between Russian and American military equipment, we would have chosen the latter. We think our weapons are better than Russia’s. So we want this opportunity to be viewed. I think it increases Armenia’s chances to stops being dependent on one state only,” he said.
Bolton said that he understands the issues connected with geopolitical position and historic realities but time has come to be optimistical that Armenia may become more noticeable in the global arena.
“The United States considers South Caucasus to be strategically very important. So the improvement of relations with Armenia is a priority for [Trump's] administration,” Bolton said.
