USA ready to help Armenia stop Russia’s policy on influencing it through Azerbaijan: Levon Shirinyan

Leader of Christian-Democratic party Levon Shirinyan described the visit of the Assistant to U.S. President for National Security Affairs John Bolton to Armenia as “very interesting”.

Speaking at a news conference today, he said that for the first time in post-soviet period the USA states that the South Caucasus is not only zone of Russian influence and that the United States too has security and other interests in the region.

He said the statement of the U.S. top official should be assessed at its worth.

“The most important in Bolton’s visit was his statements about weaponry. In fact the USA tells Armenia the following - let us help you to stop Russia’s policy on pressing you through Azerbaijan. It is an exclusive thing,” Shirinyan said.

He said it means taking Armenia out of Russia’s policy which has always viewed Azerbaijan as a way to put pressure on Armenia.
