Parliament is not for serving Nikol Pashinyan’s autocratic policy: Armen Ashotyan
With its voting the National Assembly proved that it is not the government’s hostage, Republican party MP Armen Ashotyan told the reporters after the sitting today.
“The parliament gave its political assessment and proved that it is not government’s hostage. The attempt to influence the National Assembly failed. The process of putting a basis for anti-democratic processes in Armenia has been suspended,” Ashotyan said, describing today's voting.
He said in mid-term historic period Pashinyan should be grateful to the Republican party which displayed political principality and did not allow Armenia, being member of the Council of Europe, treat the Electoral Code so wildly.
“There are figures who may consider political processes as doing good or bad. But we are not here to do either good or bad. We are bearing a historic responsibility for strengthening Armenia’s statehood, for clear division of branches of power and for strengthening the role of the Armenian parliament. We are not here to serve political ambitions and interests of certain people. The parliament is not gathering to serve Nikol Pashinyan’s autocratic policy,” Ashotyan stressed.
Today the National Assembly convened extraordinary sitting to conduct another discussion and voting of the bill on amendments in the Electoral Code. The initiative belongs to Tsarukyan faction.
The voting though failed with 62 for and two against with lack of just one vote.
