Venice Commission president hails Armenia’s government-initiated reforms in Electoral Code
Armenia’s acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received today president of the Council of Europe Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio.
Welcoming the guest Pashinyan expressed gratitude to the president of the Commission for assisting in the works on making amendments in the Electoral Code and provision of necessary consultation.
The acting PM said that the amendments in the Code were aimed at ensuring free, fair and transparent electoral system and stressed that the Armenian government attaches significance to the close dialogue and cooperation with the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODHIR.
Buquicchio hailed the initiative of the government to implement amendments in the Electoral Code and stressed that the Venice Commission has given positive conclusion to the mentioned reforms.
The president of the Commission expressed hope that the process of electoral reforms in Armenia will continue successfully.
Pashinyan and Buquicchio discussed political processes taking place in Armenia and referred to the conduction of snap parliamentary elections.
The acting PM stressed that the government will do its best to organize and conduct such elections the results of which will not raise any doubt.
Nikol Pashinyan stressed that Armenia constantly moves toward strengthening democracy, developing justice system, protection of human rights, development of civic society.
The acting head of the government said the reforms in the mentioned spheres are priorities and the development of democracy is inner demand and basic value for Armenian people.
