Life convicts to be kept with other convicts: acting deputy minister submits corresponding bill
The Armenian government approved a bill on making changes in the law on penitentiary institutions and on keeping the jailed and convicts people.
According to the changes, the distribution of the convicts in penitentiaries will hence be carried out considering the place of residence for more effective organization of meetings between the relatives and the convicts, acting deputy justice minister Artur Hovhannisian said at a cabinet sitting today.
Besides, the convicts will get a right for one long-lasting meeting – up to three-day and will have a right to make own purchases amounting up to 60,000 AMD instead of current 30,000 AMD.
According to the amendments, the life convicts will be kept together with other convicts and not separately. If a life convict is against it, he is free to write corresponding application.
