Chief of the police shares concerns of families of police officers killed during seizure of police unit by Sasna Tsrer group
As a representative of law enforcement system, I believe that each person who committed crime must be held responsible before law, chief of the Armenian police Valery Osipyan told the reporters today.
Asked whether it means he is against the amnesty, especially in case when families of victims of seizure of police patrol service by Sasna Tsrer group are against it, the chief of the police said, “I share the concerns of the families of the victims, their opinion. We have lost our friends, our best ones. The text of the amnesty law says that the opinion of the hostages and families of the victims should be considered,” Osipyan said, reminding that he was a hostage too and his opinion should be taken into consideration as well.
He said he expressed his opinion about amnesty at the closed cabinet sitting. “I am satisfied with the text of the law,” he said, adding though that the number of crimes may grow after the amnesty.
“Of course there are risks that we will have repeated crimes but I hail the amnesty. It is an act of humanism. I do not exclude that many convicts have realized their mistakes and will choose right path,” the chief of the police said.
