Sharmazanov describes today’s voting “most shameful in independent Armenia’s history,” calls to responsibility forces propagating sectarianism and sexual minorities
The Armenian National Assembly did not approve the bill on making changes in the law on ensuring security of people subjected to special state protection.
The bill offered to ensure same security level to Catholcos of All Armenians as in case of republic’s president, NA chairman. In case the bill was adopted the protection of Catholicos would have been fixed by the law and not by the PM’s discretion.
Republican faction MP Hakob Hakobyan stressed that the bill is not aimed at protecting Catholicos from the people but from the propagators of sectarianism and sexual minorities financed from abroad.
After hot debates the bill failed with just 28 for and 10 against votes.
After the voting, NA vice speaker Eduard Sharmazanov described this voting “the most shameful in the history of independent Armenia”.
“Forces feeding propaganda of sectarianism and sexual minorities must be held responsible before Armenian people,” Sharmazanov stated, leaving the hall. He was followed by the lawmakers of Republican faction.
As a result a few number of MPs remained in the hall which will not allow adoption of other bills submitted by Tsarukyan faction.
