Politicians should have thicker skin than common people: EU Ambassador
After revolution Armenia has made a big progress in terms of ensuring highest standards of freedom of speech, EU ambassador to Armenia Piotr Świtalski said at the Freedom of Speech: Where are the limits? discussion.
The diplomat said such events are being conducted before election campaign to minimize the hate speech.
“Hate speech kills democracy, kills political culture. We hope to form highest standard of political culture as a result of these elections,” the ambassador said.
He also stressed that the free speech is not necessarily polite, civil it can also be tough and painful. Nevertheless, it has its borders too.
“One thing that the Armenian political field is to learn is that the politicians should have thicker skin than common person,” the diplomat said.
