Foreigner engaged as a suspect in North-South Road Construction project abuses
The examination of materials and documents submitted by the Transport, Communication and IT Ministry to the Prosecutor’s Office has revealed violations in the implementation of North-South road corridor project by the people engaged in the development and implementation of the project in the period from 2009-2018.
It has appeared that the officials engaged in the project have hidden the obvious inefficiency of the management of the project, abused power, did not implement the intended work causing harm to the interests of the state, the people and the citizens which in its turn has resulted in grave consequences.
Particularly over 9 years, with the violation of the intended terms, the construction works of the North-South road have not been completed, the goals and results envisaged by the project have not been reached.
The damage to the legal state interest amounted to 23 billion 553,817 million AMD.
A criminal case has been filed on September 4, 2018. During the preliminary investigation it has been revealed that those responsible for the implementation of the project presented false data about the pace of implementation and stole over $1.9 million.
The foreign head of the project team has been engaged as a suspect. Investigation is underway.
