EEU presidency passes to Armenia
Armenia’s acting PM Nikol Pashinyan, who is in St. Petersburg on a working visit, participated today in the regular session of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Heads of members states of the organization and chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Colleague Tigran Sargsyan attended the session.
The participants of the council summed up the annual work of the council during Russia’s presidency and pointed out the core sectors for further Eurasian integration.
The leaders of the EAEU member states revised the current and organizational issues of the establishment. Decision has been made to pass the EAEU 2019 presidency to Armenia.
“Membership to the Eurasian Economic Union is one of the priorities for our government. The trade-economic cooperation among the EAEU member states becomes important positive factor which has a positive impact on country’s economic growth and foreign trade potential,” Armenia’s acting PM Nikol Pashinyan said in his speech.
He stressed that Armenia is interested in further expansion of integration processes in the organization and hails the Declaration on further expansion of the integration processes which defines the philosophy of the cooperation and main development directions.
The acting PM also referred to Armenia’s representation issue in the Eurasian intergovernmental council, stressing that Armenia does not demand immediate review of the issue and a corresponding decision, being guided with partnership relations and principles of constructive approaches of the union.
“Nevertheless, it is a sensitive issue for us and we would like it to remain in the general agenda for finding mutually beneficial solution,” he said.
The acting PM also convinced that Armenia is ready to accept the presidency in the EAEU and happy to host one of the sessions of the council in Armenia.
