Pressures on courts today unprecedented: Kocharyan’s attorney
The statements about judges voiced by the acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the campaign were nothing but threats, member of Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan’s defense team Hayk Alumyan told the reporters today.
“If the courts act under the influence of threats neither of the judicial acts, even if unbiased, will be considered legal. If the pressures on the judicial system are put together and analyzed it will be clear that today the situation is the same and even worse than during the former authorities,” the attorney said.
Alumyan said that these authorities must differ from the previous ones with exclusion of pressures on courts.
The attorney thinks that the judges must not be constrained while making decisions and not appear in the target of criticism.
“If he [judge] decides that it is necessary to free Kocharyan, he must not feel that he will be targeted and be considered servant of the previous authorities,” Alumyan said.
The attorney called on the authorities to change the adopted style and not put pressures on the judicial system.
