December 9 – Republican party’s revival day: Eduard Sharmazanov
December 9 is the Day of Revival of the Republican party of Armenia, party’s spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov said, speaking to Aysor.am.
He stressed that the parliamentary voting results have inspired the party more and they will start their fight as an extra parliamentary opposition.
“One thing is clear, Pashinyan’s all steps, all empty ideas, all necrologies about Republican party are just balloons. The Republican party proved that even in conditions of anti-propaganda, threats and total pressures of Gestapo Pashinyan’s shameful regime 60,000 citizens denied Nikol and said yes to Sharmazanov, Ashotyan, Vigen Sargsyan, Arpine Hovhannisian and our friends. December 9 was the day of revival of the Republican party,” Sharmazanov said.
He said those who were stating about death of the Republican party were mistaken. “Pashinyan, remember, these 60,000 citizens will become 600,000 in a year,” he said.
Sharmazanov said such results put a basis for the launch of 2d phase of fight and they will continue it as an extra parliamentary force.
“We are thankful to all the citizens who despite pressures and hatred threats were not afraid to give their votes to the Republican party,” he said.
Asked how they are going to continue their political fight, Sharmazanov said that this fight will be held in all the possible legal ways. “Our fight is for the sake of Republic of Armenia, Christian values and Artsakh,” he said.
Sharmazanov said that their concerns have grown as there is no opposition in the parliament.
As to the observation that the party would have entered the parliament if Elctoral Code was amended, Sharmazanov said they did not aim at entering the parliament and having few mandates at any cost. “Those who think so, do not know us. We are the party of Ashot Navasardyan, Andranik Margaryan and Vazgen Sargsyan and as a new generation of the RPA we are the heirs of their fight,” he said.
As to whether they accept the official voting results, Sharmazanov said that the party will issue a statement about them. Asked whether the party will congratulate the forces that passed to the parliament, Sharmazanov said the party will say everything in its statement.
The Central Electoral Commission summed up the preliminary results of the December 9 snap parliamentary elections in Armenia today.
According to them, overall 48,67% (1, 262,164) voters participated in the voting. The Republican party received 59,068 (4,70%) of votes and did not overcome the threshold.
