Russian serviceman arrested suspected in murder in Gyumri
A Russian serviceman of the 102d base deployed in Armenia’s Gyumri has been arrested suspected in the murder of street cleaner, 57-year old woman on December 3, General Prosecutor office press service reports.
No other details are being unveiled.
The woman was killed in the morning while doing her job. She was beaten severely and died on the way to hospital.
A criminal case was filed. Operative-investigative actions are being undertaken to find out all the circumstances.
On the same day a hypothesis was published by a number of mass media according to which the suspect might be a Russian serviceman. The publication was followed by a statement of the Russian embassy which described media publications as irresponsible attitude and unprofessionalism.
“Such degree of unprofessionalism displayed by certain media really raises frustration, when unchecked and unconfirmed articles are being published under “screaming” headlines fully ignoring the presumption of innocence. Such irresponsible behavior especially during this uneasy times of elections is beneficial only for forces interested in seeding disaccord in the strategic and traditionally friendly relations between Armenia and Russia,” the statement said.
