Yerevan court to publish decision on ex deputy PM’s prevention measure on December 14
The Yerevan court of general jurisdiction will publish the decision over preventive measure against ex deputy PM Armen Gevorgyan on December 14.
The petition to arrest Gevorgyan has been submitted by Special Investigation Service investigator. Attorney Erik Alexanyan said after the session that the court will publish the decision on December 14.
The attorney said that Armen Gevorgyan has come up with a statement but refused to reveal the details. “If the court decides to deny the petition the statement voiced by Gevorgyan will be unveiled for public,” the attorney said.
Gevorgyan is charged with four articles of the Criminal Code, one of them is impeding the implementation of justice. This case involves former judge of Constitutional Court Valery Poghosyan who is recognized as a victim in the case. According to the materials of the case, Gevorgyan pressured Poghosyan for making decision in favor of Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan.
Poghosyan though denies the claims, saying no pressures were exercised on him. Preventive measure against Gevorgyan in this case was signature bond.
For quite a long time the law enforcers were not speaking about Gevorgyan but after the arrest of second president Robert Kocharyan they stated on December 11 that additional charged have been brought against him. Particularly, the latter is being charged with assistance to overthrow the constitutional order in the country on March 1, 2008, as well as for taking big amount of bribe and money laundering.
All the charges will be examined in the sidelines of March 1 criminal case.
The attorney said Armen Gevorgyan gave testimonies and expressed his position. He said his defendant is not admitting the charges.
