Lukashenko addresses Armenia, urges not to be afraid of Belarusians
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko does not understand why Armenia is against appointment of the Belarus candidate in the post of the CSTO secretary general.
“It is a shame that we cannot elect the chief official of the CSTO,” Lukashenko told reporters in Minsk, Interfax-Zapad reports.
Lukashenko stressed that the Armenian authorities must agree with the member states as Yerevan is the one which has “involved” them in the issues.
“I am giving you an acting state secretary, a young general [Stanislav Zas]. He is a clever boy, he has big experience. He is state secretary. All presidents know him. I do it and urge all members states hence appoint acting talented generals to show the significance of the CSTO,” Lukashenko stressed.
He said he has proposed that Stanislav Zas visits all the CSTO member states, including Armenia.
“If you are ready to accept him, listen to him… You may not agree and stay committed to your principles. But at least talk to him. He may be better for you than any other Armenian. Why are you afraid of Belarusians? We are not strangers,” Lukashenko said.
