Russian ambassador believes politicization of case with involvement of Russian serviceman in Armenia not to help investigation
Russian military base in Armenia and Armenian law enforcers are firmly cooperating on the basis of the Armenian legislation and contracts that regulate the activity of the military base in Armenia, Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin told the reporters today.
Commenting on the incident with the involvement of Russian serviceman who beat a woman, 57, to death in Gyumri, Kopirkin said, “We believe that this issue should not be politicized. A terrible crime has been committed. I express my condolences to the family of the killed woman. Of course the crime must be investigated and the criminal must be punished. But the politicization of the issue will not result in efficiency of the investigation,” he said.
Earlier director of National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan said that the Russian serviceman will be convicted by the Armenian court.
“A criminal has no nationality. A murderer must be convicted. The crime took place in the territory of Armenia and he must be convicted by the Armenian court,” Vanetsyan said.
The tragic incident took place on December 3 in Gyumri.
