Attorney describes investigative body’s claims about departure of Manvel Grigoryan to Artsakh ‘ridiculous’
If people are closing roads for pressuring the judicial power and the authorities do not respond to it, Armenia may be named an anarchist country, Manvel Grigoryan’s attorney Levon Baghdasaryan told the reporters today.
The attorney said that advocates in Armenia are facing serious issues and it is being reflected in different offensive and mocking phrases in their address.
Speaking about the statement of the Prosecutor General’s office about appealing the court’s decision, the attorney said no representative of prosecution was present at the examination of the issue on changing Grigoryan’s preventive measure.
“Not being familiarized with the materials of the judicial act they make irresponsible statements about appealing it. The reason is obvious - the country’s PM stated that the court’s decision was a surprise for him as well and they thought that it is an illegal act,” he said, adding that if the prosecution presents any fact that being in freedom Manvel Grigoryan may impede the examination or commit new crime, the defense side will apologize and urge the defendant return to jail.
He said that the claims that the general will leave Armenia and depart for Artsakh are ridiculous. “The investigative body states that he will leave the country, we say tell us a country where Manvel Grigoryan may go, they say Artsakh. They officially state that they cannot change the preventive measure because he will depart for Artsakh, Artsakh states that it is not Armenia and there are no mechanisms to bring him back from there,” he said.
As to the court’s decision to change the preventive measure from arrest to bail, Baghdasaryan said that the court made a brave decision saving the country from appearing before the European court red-faced.
