YSU rector to sue State Control Service chairman for “groundless” statement discrediting the University
Rector of Yerevan State University Aram Simonyan refuted the information of chairman of the State Control Service Davit Sanasaryan about the two-month long audit in the YSU.
At a press conference convened late at night of December 28 Simonyan said that the State Control Service started unprecedented wide-scale audit in the University from July 7. “Davit Sanasaryan’s statement that it lasted for two months does not correspond to reality. The audit cannot last longer than two months according to the law,” Simonyan stated.
Sanasaryan referred to the audit results in a post in Facebook reporting that the results of the audit in YSU conducted during 2 months were sent to prosecutor’s office. “According to our initial assessment, the harm to the foundation reached over 800 million AMD. But I may convince that if the audit would have been conducted longer, the number of damage would have been more,” he wrote.
Simonyan showed documents and said the time of audit has been prolonged several times.
He described Sanasaryan’s statement about the 800 million AMD damage as “absolutely ungrounded.” The rector claimed that Sanasaryan has violated the law and published information about audit “without corresponding permission.”
The YSU rector claimed that the audit has been carried out by non-professionals. The rector said activity of 9,5 billion AMD has been checked and concerns over 500 million AMD have been expressed, the majority of which are groundless claims.
Simonyan said he is convinced that all this is being done on purpose to discredit the YSU.
“We are going to file a lawsuit to compensate the damage caused by the statements of the the State Control Service and its chairman. We have Legal Faculty, good lawyers, potential which will allow us to solve this illegality in a judicial way,” Simonyan said.
He also said he is not going to resign as the matter relates to the image of the Univeristy and its leadership. He said he will go till the end.
“They have involved me into this and they will be held responsible for the consequences. I am an elected rector, and I will keep my term till the end,” he said.
Simonyan's term ends in 2020.
