Armenia-EU agreement not to be ratified in 2019: Armen Ashotyan makes pessimistic forecasts
Vice chairman of the Republican party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan referred to the prospects of ratification of Armenia-EU agreement this year.
“With this tempo Armenia-EU agreement unfortunately will not be ratified in 2019. After the change of power Armenia-EU agreement faced not only serious challenges regarding its application and implementation of reforms but it loses its political significance and value,” Ashotyan wrote in Facebook page.
He wrote that as of now 9 out of 28 EU member states have ratified the agreement.
“For ratification of the agreement by the end of the year, it will be necessary:
Accelerate the ratification process in the rest 19 countries
Sent maximum positive impulses to Brussels before the European elections
Accelerate the implementation of the agreement inside the country
Ensure utmost use of the parliamentary diplomatic tools
Immediately establish ties after European elections with the new leadership of the EU trying to push forward the “Armenian dossier.”
Summing up the existing issues and the abilities of the new government and with the greatest wish to be mistaken, I am forced to make pessimistic forecast that the Armenia-EU agreement will not be ratified during 2019,” Ashotyan wrote.
