Armenia’s president receives PM Nikol Pashinyan
Armenia’s president Armen Sarkissian signed today a decree appointing Nikol Pashinyan Armenia’s Prime Minister. The decree was signed at the presence of Pashinyan in the presidential residence.
Before the signing of the decree, the president welcomed Pashinyan and congratulated on the first session of newly formed parliament.
“The new NA has a lot to do and its activities are quite clear. The parliament must do everything to make the ideas, hopes and expectations tied with the velvet revolution come true,” he said, adding that he has received proposal from the NA and would sign the decree of appointing him as Armenia’s PM.
In response Pashinyan said that the main political change, that is return of power back to the people has been achieved, and democracy has been established.
“Another issue is that this democracy must be strengthened with institutional guarantees so that the democracy, rule of law, availability of economic activity be guaranteed not by the political situation, agreed with the personalities but with the existence of democratic, state, political institutions,” Pashinyan said, adding that in economic life too changes have taken place with the monopole economic system having been completely eliminated.
