New authorities exert pressure on judicial system and mass media: ARF-D

Democracy is in the creation of atmosphere of tolerance of opposite viewpoint and opinion, while currently in Armenia an opposite viewpoint is being accepted with hysteria, threatening, campaign in mass media and social networks, ARF-D Bureau representative Hrant Margaryan said today at the opening of the party’s 33d General Assembly.

“Pressures are obviously being made on the judicial system. We are very far from having democracy and independent judicial system,” he said.

“In essence, ruling of one political force has been established in the parliament as a result of elections which focused in its hands both the legislative and executive powers, makes pressures on judicial power and the so-called fourth power – mass media,” he said, adding that the counter-balance has been violated.

“No independent system to fight against corruption has been formed, there is a great danger of merging of the legislative and executive powers and consolidation of person-oriented power,” he said.
