To have good foreign policy it is first necessary to respect diplomat’s institute: Mikayel Minasyan
Interview of Aysor.am with former Ambassador of Armenia to the Holy See Mikayel Minasyan.
- Mr Minasyan, speaking at the National Assembly yesterday, MP from Bright Armenia faction Arman Babajanyan strictly criticized Armenian ambassadors, stressing that for many years people with suspicious biography were appointed in the posts of ambassadors. While speaking about you, he said you are one of our best ambassadors. What do you think about it?
- Let me disagree with some facts voiced during the well-known speech at the NA. I am truly upset of the thoughts and qualifications voiced from the highest rostrum of the country which may really have unfavorable influence on our foreign policy. Only few may see and perceive the variety of issues our diplomats solve everyday without any unnecessary PR. It is a hard work that demands respect and prudent attitude. We have brilliant ambassadors, a serious army of diplomats, who for decades, at least until this moment, solved the issues put by the political leadership with honor.
To have good foreign policy you first should start respecting the diplomat’s institute. Thus, if to start the new path of the foreign political bloc by discrediting this institute, I am afraid, we will not go too far in this sector.
- Your name is periodically being tied with this or that figure or force. During the recent days, talks about your ties with Bright Armenia party have intensified. In your opinion, what is the reason of it?
- To speak frankly, it is rather strange that in a such complicated situation when we face a number of issues which need not toasts but urgent solutions, they are wasting time on such talks instead of uniting the potential for cutting the number of issues.
I have learned to read and get surprised long ago, but I have also learned to wait with a hope that one day people will understand that the regular made-up story imposed on them was a stupidity, and I am sure that as soon as people realize it, another fairy-tale will be made full of absurdities. I regret that this is the reality, but I am convinced that everything will become clear during the time.
- The National Assembly is said to lack opposition and despite the claims of the authorities about formation of opposition inside the ruling force to fill this vacuum, the issue will gradually become more vivid. Do you share this claim? How real are the claims about the dangers of lack of radical opposition in the NA?
- My opinion is that the Armenian people have not given the right of being an opposition to anyone in the NA and outside of it yet. In my perception, today our people do not want to have opposition. The people gave their votes to the ruling majority, the others got the votes as forces attached to My Step. At least during the campaign neither the PAP nor Bright Armenia spoke about being opposition to My Step realizing and feeling people’s moods. In future the opposition is condemned to be formed outside of the NA.
- What may become a core for consolidation?
- Our people’s demand is to live good. This complaint pushed many to raise their voice. During the past 30 years at all well-known events we were struggling for living good, though sometimes we covered it under other goals. The wish to live good is accompanied with the euphoria and transforms into a struggle for big, uncertain idea very quickly diverting from the preliminary demand. Unfortunately, at the end of these stories, as a rule, we live worse.
If these authorities fail to satisfy the demand of the people to live good too, again public unrest will start, until a force comes and frankly says that the people will live good and shows the way and presents strategy and a team able to bring it into reality.
