Giving NSS and Police status of ministry to be big political mistake: NA chairman

Turning the National Security Service and Police into a ministry to be a serious mistake, NA chairman Ararat Mirzoyan told the reporters today.

“I will consider giving these structures status of ministry and again politicizing them a serious political mistake,” he said, adding that one of the institutional achievements of the new authorities were depoliticization of these structures and depriving them of ministerial status.

Speaking about the control over these institutions, Mirzoyan noted that during the recent months they have become out of control.

“We have spoken with our colleagues about it. There are many mechanisms, like bringing the heads of these institutions to the parliament, organize meetings with lawmakers,” Mirzoyan stressed.

Speaking to reporters yesterday head of Bright Armenia faction Edmon Mirzoyan said that NSS and police must become ministries.
