Armenia needs official document fixing Baku pogroms as continuation of genocide policy against Armenians: expert
The January 13-19, 1990 Baku pogroms of Armenians was a policy carried out by Azerbaijani and USSR leaders, political expert Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said at the discussion dedicated to the 29th anniversary of Baku pogroms.
“The pogroms of Armenians in Baku were the continuation of 1988 pogroms in Sumgait. Unfortunately, the reality was that not all was possible to control that time and get complete information about the fate of our compatriots,” he said.
He said that after the 30 years of the events new facts and testimonies appear about those pogroms.
“With unknown reasons there are no legal assessments about the pogroms in Armenia. We do not have any official document which would fix that it was continuation of the genocide policy. Works are being carried out mainly in expertise circles,” Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said.
