Azerbaijani president describes conversations with Armenia’s PM as ‘useful’
Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev described the meetings with the Armenian leadership at the CIS summits as useful regarding the activation of talks over Nagorno Karabakh and expression of positions. He told about it to Russian Ria.ru at Davos World Economic Forum.
“I have never avoided meetings with the Armenian side as we are interested in speeded-up settlement of the conflict,” he said.
Aliyev stressed that full format negotiations have not yet taken place between Armenian and Azerbaijani leaderships but there were few “useful conversations.”
“There was no meeting as such. We had two conversations, the one in Dushanbe at the CIS summit and in St. Petersburg during CIS non-formal summit. They cannot be called as full format meetings but more as useful conversations addressed to the expression of the positions of the sides, giving new impetus to the process of negotiations, which has intensified currently,” Aliyev said.
