Ski center opens in Armenia’s Ashotsk to promote and encourage healthy lifestyle
Ski center opened today in Armenia’s Ashotsk with the assistance of the European Union.
EU Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Switalski said at the event that the EU carried out this initiative having few purposes.
“The EU wants to help Armenian families. The EU wants Armenian families to be stronger. We also want to promote and encourage healthy lifestyle. Skiing is a family sports, and it guarantees health. The third thing is that we want to assist the Armenian communities. For instance people of Ashotsk are living in hard climate conditions. It is covered with snow 7 months in the year, so we may turn the snow into useful active,” Switalski said.
He voiced hope that Ashotsk and nearby territories will become leading ones regarding the development of winter sports.
Deputy territorial development and administration minister Vache Terteryan stressed that it is a very good beginning for wide-range implementation of ministry’s projects in Ashotsk.
“We must use the opportunity Ashotsk has due to its geographical location. We have good sport traditions here which we must consistently restore,” the deputy minister said.
