New impetus necessary in Armenian-Iranian relations: expert
Expert on Iranian sciences Vardan Voskanyan is convinced that the change of powers in Armenia and Iran and the domestic political developments must not have any impact on the relations between the two countries as they are of vital significance both for Armenia and Iran.
“As to the current phase of Armenian-Iranian relations agreed with domestic political developments in Armenia there was a noticeable suspension. Now we have an issue of filling the gap agreed with this stoppage as soon as possible,” he told Aysor.am, adding that Armenia, as a state, has an issue to fill this gap with high level meetings and organization of reciprocal visits.
The expert said it is mainly been spoken about the meetings of the leaders of the two countries. According to him, the contacts between the high-ranking officials to strengthen the Armenian-Iranian relations.
“The high-level meetings between the two states are very important if to consider that our regional enemies tried to make use of this stoppage,” the expert stressed, adding that the Armenian-Iranian relations must not be agreed with foreign signals, urges or pressures.
Voskanyan also drew the attention on the circumstance that the Armenian-Iranian relations have not changed in the political sector while certain risks appeared in economic one which may in their turn affect the political relations as well.
“I am speaking about the American sanctions, which create certain concerns and cautiousness in Armenia. In any case the potential of Armenian-Iranian relations is so big that the general political background may be positively assessed but again, necessary works are to be carried out in a speeded-up and on high quality, otherwise we will have big gaps,” the expert said.
