Armenia to get 4 SU-30SM fighters from Russia in 2020
In 2020 Armenia will get 4 SU-30SM fighters according to the contract signed with Russia, an official from one of aviation industry companies told Russian Kommersant.
He said that though the contract is considered to be a commercial one and the purchase is carried out by loan means provided by the Russian side the price set for Armenia is the same as for Russian military forces.
“Such conditions by the Russian side are a real gift,” he said, stressing that the contract envisages training of the Armenian pilots in Russian military territories.
After the change of authorities in Armenia in 2018 the purchase of six SU-30SM was discussed but after the negotiations a decision was made to buy 4, the source told Kommersant.
This is the first contract signed with the Armenian Ministry of Defense during Pashinyan’s ruling. It was important for Russia to confirm the firmness of its position at its CSTO ally.
