Life convict declares hunger strike, demands meeting with justice minister
A life convict in Armavir penitentiary Vagharshak Avetisyan has declared a hunger strike six days ago demanding meeting with Armenia’s justice minister Artak Zeynalyan, the convict’s relatives told Aysor.am.
He also demands reopening of his case and a press conference with reporters.
Press service of the penitentiary department of the Justice Ministry informed Aysor.am that the convict declared hunger strike from January 30 and is under doctors’ control.
The relatives of the convict claim that six days have passed while no one from Ombudsman’s office has come to visit him.
Avetisyan has been sentenced to life imprisonment on March 16, 2008 for the murder of taxi driver on the way to Goris.
The convict did not admit the charged brought against him till the publication of the verdict. They say that Avetisyan was kept in police 106 days and was beaten and tortured there.
