Yerevan highly signifies creation of alternative to Upper Lars: decision due on February 6
Moscow and Tbilisi have completed the procedures necessary for the implementation of 2011 contract which allows usage of territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia for trade and transit of cargos. Armenia is also allowed to make use of it which will become an alternative to Upper Lars.
The session of the joint committee with the participation of Russia, Georgia and Switzerland is scheduled on February 6 in Switzerland.
Official Yerevan is not commenting on the situation yet not having the official results of the talks.
“As far as the meeting of the committee has not taken place, as far as there are no results we will refrain from commenting. But of course, Armenia highly signifies the creation of alternative to Upper Lars which will have a positive impact on cargo transportation,” Vahan Hunanyan, spokesperson of Armenia’s deputy PM Tigran Avinyan, told Aysor.am.
The issue was referred to by Russia’s deputy foreign minister Grigory Karasin during his recent visit to Armenia. He said that Russia will carry out its commitments despite some difficulties regarding the political status of countries involved. “It is a delicate issue which will be discussed at the trilateral meeting,” Karasin said.
