With its positive evaluations Russia aims at irritating the U.S. side: political analyst on deploying Armenian humanitarian mission in Syria
It was clear from the very beginning that our involvement in the Syrian crisis was risky and not only due to it being a “bog” even for big states but due to the perception of Armenia’s participation there by the big states, political analyst Styopa Safaryan told Aysor.am, referring to the reactions of the USA and Russia over deployment of Armenian humanitarian mission in Syria.
“The United States did not hail and was strongly against Russia’s activity in Syria, consequently it was clear how the USA and Russia would respond to Armenia’s step,” he said.
“Frankly speaking, I consider the position of the Armenian Foreign Ministry satisfactory, which in essence, made it clear that sending humanitarian mission to Syria should not be viewed as a step aimed at backing any of the camps,” he said, adding that the Armenian side made reference to the humanitarian assistance to Syria in the sidelines of the UN and will not undertake any other activities but helping the Armenian community and Syrian people.
The analyst said the other issues are to be regulated between the two states.
Styopa Safaryan said that the positive evaluation of the step by the Russian side, including by the State Duma Committee’s chairman Leonid Kalashnikov is aimed at irritating the U.S. side.
At the same time the analyst stressed that the deployment of the Armenian humanitarian mission in Syria cannot become a reason for further speculations between the two parties.
“I think the issue is over as the positions have already been voiced by the Armenian side,” he said, adding that the Armenian mission is not in the field of big gamers.
