Ex-DM Seyran Ohanyan’s defense team claims accusation against the ex official unclear
Defense team of Armenia’s ex defense minister Seyran Ohanyan has received a note from Special Investigation Service on February 16 about the end of preliminary investigation.
Seyran Ohanyan is charged under Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code – overthrowing constitutional order.
Ohanyan’s attorney Karen Mezhlumyan told Aysor.am that they have submitted a petition to the investigation body to present the essence of Ohanyan’s accusation as they stated that they do not understand it.
“We are being sent to court with an accusation we do not understand. If something is not clear for us, how we can defend us. For instance, we ask a very simple question – when the constitutional order was overthrown, when it started. It is a very simple question, but they cannot give us any answer. We ask them when the constitutional order was considered overthrown and when it was restored. There is no answer. If you do not have answers to these questions how can we defend?” the attorney said.
Ohanyan and his defense team claim the innocence of the former minister.
As to the upcoming actions of the defense team, the attorney said they are going to apply to corresponding bodies to bring to responsibility the officials who violated Ohanyan’s constitutional rights.
