Iran convinced that Artsakhi-Azerbaijani border to never change in Azerbaijan’s favor: expert
Meeting of Armenian and Iranian Foreign Ministers in Munich must be assessed positively as among many issues reference was also made to the Karabakh conflict settlement, YSU Iranian Sciences Chair head Vardan Voskanyan told Aysor.am.
“Iran is a bordering state and in essence it has exclusive geographical position as it has common border with Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
Thus, providing some information to Iran about the process over Karabakh stems from our interests,” the interlocutor said.
As to Iran’s position over the issue, the expert said it has remained unchanged.
“Iran believes that the Artsakh conflict must be regulated in a peaceful way, diplomatically. Stemming from Iranian interests the leadership of that country believes that Artsakhi-Azerbaijani border must never change in favor of Azerbaijan,” he said.
The expert said Iranians are against deployment of any peacekeeping forces in the region be them forces having international mandate or representatives of third countries.
“Naturally, Iran builds its policy stemming from its intentions and logic,” Voskanyan said, stressing, that the neighbor country views border security from its own interest.
“The control of the de facto borderline by the Armenian side which includes Armenia-Iran and Artsakh-Iran border sectors stems from the interests of the Iranian side taking into consideration all the dangers threatening Iran from northern Turkic states,” Voskanyan concluded.
