Edmon Marukyan initiates constitutional changes to raise authorities of factions

Bright Armenia faction head Edmon Marukyan has sent to the My Step and PAP factions the bill on constitutional changes authored by him and groundings.

“I have proposed organization of joint discussions over the bill,” Marukyan wrote in Facebook.

Speaking to Aysor.am, the MP said that by the constitutional changes they want to give an NA faction the right to initiate NA extraordinary sitting or convene a session, demand discussions over urgent topics as well as apply to Constitutional Court. This all is possible now only in case of gathering necessary number of signatures by the MPs.

“We can make only few changes in the Constitution regarding the parliamentary sector. We have grounded that after the recent parliamentary elections the NA has total constitutional majority and nothing depends from the votes of MPs of other factions, in case when the NA is to adopt constitutional laws, appoint prosecutor general, for instance,” Marukyan said, adding that the ruling majority is not limited in anything.

The MP said in current reality the other factions have no authorities as such.

He said at previous parliament the Republican party was not the only majorityd and it was many times supported by the ARF-D, while now the situation has changed and the existing majority – 88 MPs – may without opposition votes and without opposition’s opinion adopt or change important constitutional laws, appoint core officials.
