Armenia not to defend only but to attack too if military actions resume: Defense Minister

The Armenian Armed Forces are not going to enter into race of arms and are acquiring such ammunition which will help to neutralize the ambitions of the adversary, Armenia’s Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan said at Public TV today.

“Neither quantitively nor demographically nor economically we can be equal to them [Azerbaijan]. That is why we must focus on quality. We are making such purchases which will give us opportunity to neutralize the ambitions of the adversary,” the minister said.

Asked whether he is speaking about SU fighter jets, Tonoyan said, “including SU.”

As to whether their prices are very high, Tonoyan said, “We will find effective solutions to restrain and to win the rival.”

He said the Armenian army is also acquiring attacking weapons.

“The psychology is changing, the approach is changing as the armies which are always defending are always losing. That is why we are not going to defend only. If it is spoken about resumption of military actions, we will not hesitate,” the minister said.

Asked whether the army will attack too, Tonoyan said, “And why not?”

With the new Russia loan which will total $100 million, Armenia will purchase such ammunition which will give an opportunity to solve the issues without entering into arms race. The type of these ammunition is a secret, the minister said.
