ICRC to continue visiting Karen Ghazaryan jailed in Azerbaijan for 20 years
International Committee of the Red Cross is periodically visiting Armenian citizen Karen Ghazaryan sentenced to 20 years in jail in Azerbaijan. The visits are aimed at controlling the conditions he is kept in and health condition as well as to ensure communication with the family members, head of the ICRC Armenian office communication program Zara Amatuni told Aysor.am.
At the same time she reminded that the ICRC is not dealing with the return of the captives.
“We are not negotiating over the issue of return but in case corresponding bodies make decision to return the latter to homeland, our organization as an independent, unbiased mediator may organize the process,” she said, adding the ICRC representatives will continue visiting Karen Ghazaryan in the same way, irrespective where he is.
She also stressed that no information about the health and other conditions of the captives is being reported but these issues are under their permanent limelight.
“We are discussing these issues with authorities and family members,” Amatuni said.
