March 1 victims, injured should get fair compensation: My Step faction issues statement
My Step faction MPs are meeting today with the territorial administration and development minister Suren Papikyan. Before the meeting started, head of the faction Lilit Makunts came up with the statement over March 1.
First, she attached significance to giving political assessment to March 1, 2008 developments, stressed the necessity of ensuring people’s right to conduct peaceful rallies.
The head of the ruling faction presented their statement consisting of four points.
The first point says that bringing the responsible for March 1 events to responsibility is a historic must which will be a message to all the authorities of Armenia for excluding the repetition of one of the darkest pages in Armenia’s newest history and promoting the restoration of justice and reconciliation as well as strengthening of democracy.
The second point refers to the provision of fair compensation to the victims and injured of the March 1, 2008 events.
The third point says that causing death to ten citizens may not be acquitted and stay unpunished.
And the final fourth point says that March 1 victims will always be remembered and efforts will be made in legislative as well as in whole political culture to make changes that will guarantee exclusion of any violence and political persecution in domestic public actions and in implementation of people’s fundamental rights and freedoms.
Makunts also said that this statement may be presented in future as NA statement bill.
