Ararat Mirzoyan invites all political forces to participate in discussions over electoral reforms
National Assembly chairman Ararat Mirzoyan invited all political forces to participate in the discussions over the Electoral Code.
Speaking from the NA tribune today, Mirzoyan said that the elections are the main condition for democratic system to exist.
“If we have written in the Constitution that Armenia is a democratic, legal state, the power belongs to people, the people realize this power through elections, we have to honestly follow this rule,” the NA chairman said.
Mirzoyan said that the major part of the issues in the country arouse as a result of failure of the electoral system to work. The NA chairman said that after a long break the December 9 snap parliamentary elections were free, fair and transparent.
“I am not saying it for show-off. This is like an oxygen without which it is impossible to live. I think it was necessary to register from the NA tribune and all the political forces must come to agreement and reaffirm our join wish to have exclusively free, fair and democratic elections,” Mirzoyan said.
The NA chairman noted that the Electoral Code as well as electoral institutes in Armenia need to be improved.
“Using this opportunity, I want to invite all the political forces to start working out electoral reforms with joint efforts. If we come to agreement together we may work our more radical changes,” Mirzoyan said.
The NA chairman voiced this statement after the end of discussion of 2018 program of activity of Central Electoral Commission.
