Official Baku does not think any option of Karabakh conflict settlement must be acceptable for peoples of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh: Pashinyan
The position of the Armenian government over Karabakh conflict settlement has not changed during the recent months, Armenia’s PM Nikol Pashinyan said today, speaking at the NA-Government Q&A.
“Our position has toughened in the negotiation process, but I can say that Armenia has not changed its position as if you remember we have stated from the very beginning that we will be adequate to the situation,” the PM stressed.
He said that earlier at the NA he made an unprecedented statement, saying that Karabakh conflict settlement must be acceptable for Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
“This was not an easy statement to make, and I expected similar one from the Azerbaijan but till now no statement has been voiced,” the PM said, adding that the statement was aimed at creating normal atmosphere for negotiations. “Armenia in essence has made the first step in that direction, having hope that similar statement will be voiced from Azerbaijan but unfortunately no such thing happened, on the contrary they are hinting about readiness for military settlement of the conflict,” Pashinyan said.
“Statements are being made which make it obvious that Azerbaijani government and authorities do not think that any option of conflict settlement must be acceptable for the peoples of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh and in such condition we remain committed to our position – respond adequately to the situation,” the PM said.
“For making the negotiations effective we must have effective format of negotiations which we had in 1994 when Nagorno Karabakh was a full participating side at the negotiations, and now we will do everything for this format to restore, of course, in the sidelines of the OSCE Minsk Group,” Pashinyan said.
As to whether the international partners have perceived Armenia’s position, Pashinyan said, “Naturally we are working with our partners to make our position more clear and the dynamics of the recent months shows that the level of perception increases.”
