No successful military solution to Nagorno-Karabakh issue: James Appathurai
Nagorno Karabakh conflict cannot have military resolution, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, and the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai said at a news conference today in Yerevan.
“As you know NATO does not interfere into conflict resolution and as a result does not comment on the developments but, of course, peace and security in the region is of direct interest to NATO partners and allies,” Appathurai said, adding that the organization supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.
“We are encouraged that the new government has put energy into the political process and negotiations. We are also encouraged by the substantial reduction in direct fire on the line of contact as well as mechanisms applied for prevention of escalations,” Appathurai said.
"It is clearly the NATO's assessment that there can only be peaceful resolution to this dispute. There will be no successful military solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue," Appathurai concluded.
