NATO understands Armenia’s motives to assist Syrian community: NATO official

NATO clearly understands all the political and humanitarian observations with which Armenia helps Syria, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, and the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai said at a news conference today in Yerevan.

At the same time he stressed that NATO has no adopted position over the issue.

“NATO officially has not taken a position over the issue, and to be honest I do not expect it will take,” Appathurai said.

He said the issue was discussed with the ministers of foreign affairs and defense.

“I have heard their analysis of the situation from the viewpoint of Armenia and the country’s reason of doing that. I want to say that we clearly understand the political and humanitarian motives Armenia assists the community,” Appathurai said.
