Armenian Ombudsman voices Karen Ghazaryan’s issue in Geneva
Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan had a working meeting in Geneva with the head of the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, International Committee of the Red Cross Patrick Vial. During the meeting the parties discusses issues relating to Karen Ghazaryan jailed in Azerbaijan.
The ombudsman referred to the same issue at the meeting with the head of the ICRC Armenian delegation Claire Meytraud.
At the meeting with Patrick Vial, Tatoyan briefed on the concerns of Karen Ghazaryan’s parents and his attorney about his health condition and the necessity of special treatment for him.
He also voiced the request of the parents and attorney to ensure video or audio communication between Ghazaryan and the family members. Currently the communication is ensured only via letters, which does not give the parents an opportunity to directly contact with their son.
Armenian ombudsman also voiced the key issue on returning Karen Ghazaryan, of course, considering that ICRC is not conducting negotiations between the parties over such issues but only provides necessary assistance and functions of the organization.
At the end of the meeting the parties agreed to continue the works.
