Joint currency for EAEU member states impossible for near future: Michael Melkumyan
United Eurasian market is not a reality yet, chairman of Regional and Eurasian Integration Affairs Standing Committee Michael Melkumyan said at the session today.
“It is being very much spoken about, there are signed agreements, but there are still unsolved issues. There are problems which needed to be overcome,” he said.
Melkumyan stressed that a united social system should be created among the EAEU member countries to exclude cases when citizens emigrate to Russia, as pensions there are high.
“In 2023-24 we will head to creation united social environment. It is necessary to understand the issues our legislation has,” Melkumyan stressed.
Speaking about joint currency in the EAEU member states, Melkumyan said it is too early to speak about such prospect in near future.
“The idea of united currency may be discussed but in my opinion it is too early to speak about it. But if we reach consensus to pay for gas and oil products with rubles we may pass to that system,” he said.
