Key issues and conflicts in the region are not similar: Armenia’s president meets with Georgian counterpart
Key issues and conflicts in the region are not similar consequently the grounds for their regulations are not similar too, Armenia’s president Armen Sarkissian said after negotiations with President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili who is in Armenia on a two-day official visit.
“Together with my Georgian counterpart we agreed that our key issues and conflicts are not similar, consequently the grounds for their regulations are not similar too. My personal conviction is that the solutions should be sought in exclusively peaceful way on the basis of international right and norms and in case of Artsakh, on the basis of respect of right of people to self-determination,” Armenia’s president stated.
The president also stated that the development of Armenian-Georgian relations has its unique place in Armenia’s foreign political agenda.
“I assess the negotiations with Mrs President very effective. Armenia is always interested in formation and preservation of peace and security climate in the region,” the Armenian president said.
He also noted that during the meeting they attached significance to the implementation of infrastructure development, energy and logistic projects in the South Caucasus.
During her visit to Baku Georgia’s president Salome Zourabichvili stated at the meeting with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev that during the recent years their two countries have passed through the similar tragedies. “During the recent years our countries have passed through similar tragedies. Today we feel what occupation means for a country, when your territorial integrity is breached. The occupation lines are open wounds for us and impede our development,” Zourabichvili stated, adding that despite these tragedies, they managed to strengthen and develop their economies to continue their path as independent states.
